Job Description

We are seeking a meticulous and highly organized Finance Officer specializing in Company Records to join our dynamic finance team in Nairobi. This pivotal role involves the comprehensive management, maintenance, and reconciliation of all financial records, ensuring absolute accuracy, integrity, and compliance with both internal policies and external regulatory frameworks, including International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and local statutory requirements. The successful candidate will be instrumental in upholding the financial health and transparency of Equity Bank Kenya by meticulously handling accounting entries, supporting audit processes, and contributing to robust financial reporting. You will work closely with various departments, providing essential financial insights and data that underpin strategic decision-making. This role demands a proactive individual with exceptional attention to detail, a strong ethical compass, and a deep understanding of financial record-keeping best practices. You will be responsible for ensuring that all financial transactions are accurately captured, categorized, and readily accessible for review, playing a critical part in our commitment to operational excellence and regulatory compliance. Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records, including ledgers, journals, and supporting documentation.
  • Ensure all financial transactions are properly authorized, recorded, and classified in accordance with IFRS and company policies.
  • Perform regular reconciliation of accounts, including bank statements, intercompany balances, and other financial accounts, identifying and resolving discrepancies promptly.
  • Assist in the preparation of periodic financial statements, reports, and analyses for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Support internal and external audit processes by providing timely and accurate financial documentation and explanations.
  • Manage the secure storage and retrieval of all financial records, ensuring compliance with data retention policies.
  • Monitor and ensure compliance with relevant financial regulations, tax laws, and corporate governance standards.
  • Collaborate with other finance team members and departments to ensure seamless financial operations and data flow.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of financial record-keeping systems and processes.
  • Assist in the preparation and monitoring of budgets and financial forecasts as required.

Required Skills

  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., SAP, Oracle Financials, or similar ERP systems)
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, data analysis)
  • Strong understanding of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS)
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in data entry and record keeping
  • Analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field from a recognized institution
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA-K) or Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) qualification
  • At least 3 years of progressive experience in financial record management, preferably within the banking or financial services sector
  • Knowledge of Kenyan tax laws and financial regulations
  • Experience with large-scale financial data management and reporting
