Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and analytical Finance Officer to join our dynamic team in Portland, ME, focusing specifically on our global company sponsorship initiatives. In this pivotal role, you will be instrumental in overseeing the financial management, compliance, and strategic planning related to UNUM’s global sponsorships, partnerships, and community investment programs. This position offers a unique opportunity to blend your financial expertise with an understanding of global business development and corporate social responsibility.
The Finance Officer will be responsible for a wide array of financial activities, including budgeting, forecasting, expenditure tracking, and reporting for all global sponsorship activities. You will work closely with various internal departments, including Marketing, Legal, and Corporate Social Responsibility teams, as well as external partners, to ensure that all financial aspects of sponsorships are meticulously managed and aligned with UNUM’s corporate objectives and regulatory requirements. This includes evaluating the financial viability and return on investment (ROI) of potential sponsorships, negotiating financial terms, and ensuring all transactions adhere to international accounting standards and local regulations.

Key Responsibilities
- Develop, manage, and monitor budgets and forecasts for all global company sponsorship programs and initiatives.
- Conduct comprehensive financial analysis, including ROI assessments, for prospective and ongoing global sponsorships.
- Ensure strict compliance with internal financial policies, international accounting standards (e.g., IFRS/GAAP), and relevant local/international tax and regulatory requirements.
- Prepare detailed financial reports and presentations for senior management, outlining performance, variances, and strategic recommendations.
- Collaborate with Marketing, Legal, and Corporate Social Responsibility teams to establish financial terms and agreements for sponsorship contracts.
- Track and reconcile all sponsorship-related expenditures, ensuring accurate record-keeping and timely processing of payments.
- Identify and implement opportunities for cost efficiencies and financial optimization within the global sponsorship portfolio.
- Provide financial guidance and support to internal stakeholders regarding global sponsorship activities.
- Participate in the continuous improvement of financial processes and systems related to global sponsorships.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field.
- 4+ years of experience in a finance or accounting role, preferably with exposure to corporate sponsorships, partnerships, or project finance.
- Strong understanding of financial principles, budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting.
- Proficiency in financial modeling and data analysis tools (e.g., Excel, financial software).
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to articulate complex financial information to diverse audiences.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, global environment.
- Strong organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail.
Preferred Qualifications
- CPA, CFA, or other relevant professional certifications.
- Experience with international financial regulations and cross-border transactions.
- Familiarity with financial systems like SAP, Oracle, or similar ERP platforms.
- Previous experience in the insurance or financial services industry.
