Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive fire risk assessments across diverse premises, developing and implementing effective action plans to mitigate identified hazards.
  • Ensure strict compliance with the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, BS 9999, and all other relevant national and local fire safety legislation and guidelines.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain robust fire safety policies, procedures, and detailed emergency plans tailored to specific site requirements.
  • Organise, deliver, and evaluate engaging fire safety training sessions for staff at all levels, including fire warden training and general fire awareness.
  • Perform regular, thorough inspections of premises, fire safety equipment (e.g., alarms, extinguishers, emergency lighting), and associated systems, ensuring they are operational, correctly maintained, and certified.
  • Investigate all fire incidents, near misses, and false alarms, reporting findings accurately and recommending corrective and preventative actions.
  • Liaise effectively and maintain strong relationships with local fire authorities, enforcing bodies, and external contractors on all fire safety matters.
  • Manage and monitor fire detection and suppression systems, including regular testing and inspection of alarm systems, sprinklers, and passive fire protection measures.
  • Maintain accurate, detailed, and up-to-date records of all fire safety activities, inspections, training, incidents, and maintenance works.
  • Provide expert advice and guidance on fire safety aspects of new developments, refurbishments, and significant operational changes to ensure compliance from the outset.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of fire safety management systems and practices within the organisation.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience as a Fire Safety Officer or similar role (minimum 4 years)
  • Extensive knowledge of UK fire safety legislation, including the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005
  • NFPA, IFE, or similar recognised fire safety qualifications (e.g., NEBOSH Fire Certificate)
  • Demonstrable experience in conducting comprehensive fire risk assessments and developing mitigation strategies
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to deliver effective training
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and a meticulous attention to detail
  • Proficiency in emergency planning and incident management
  • Valid UK Driving License

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced fire safety qualifications (e.g., Level 4 Diploma in Fire Safety)
  • Experience working across a portfolio of diverse buildings or complex industrial sites
  • Membership of a relevant professional body (e.g., Institution of Fire Engineers, IFSM)
  • First Aid at Work certification
