Job Description

Career.zycto is seeking dedicated and resilient individuals to join our partners’ team as Seasonal Fishermen in the Columbia, Waterloo region. As a Seasonal Fisherman, you will be an integral part of a close-knit crew, working outdoors in diverse weather conditions to harvest aquatic resources responsibly.

The role involves rigorous physical activity, including lifting heavy nets, operating fishing gear, and maintaining equipment. Safety is paramount, and you will be expected to adhere strictly to all maritime regulations and company safety protocols. You will gain hands-on experience with various fishing techniques, from setting and hauling nets to sorting catches and preparing them for transport. Key Responsibilities

  • Operate and maintain fishing gear, including nets, traps, and lines.
  • Assist with the safe deployment and retrieval of fishing equipment.
  • Sort, clean, and store catches according to established protocols.
  • Monitor weather and sea conditions and communicate effectively with the captain and crew.
  • Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs on vessel and equipment.
  • Adhere strictly to all safety regulations, maritime laws, and environmental guidelines.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization on deck and throughout the vessel.
  • Work collaboratively as part of a team to ensure efficient and productive fishing operations.
  • Handle heavy loads and perform physically demanding tasks for extended periods.
  • Assist with docking, anchoring, and general vessel operations.

Required Skills

  • Physical stamina and ability to lift heavy objects (50+ lbs) repeatedly.
  • Ability to work long hours in various weather conditions (sun, rain, wind).
  • Strong work ethic and reliability.
  • Basic knowledge of knots and ropes.
