Key Responsibilities

  • Assist chefs and cooks with comprehensive food preparation tasks, including washing, peeling, chopping, slicing, and measuring ingredients with precision.
  • Support the cooking process by performing basic cooking tasks under direct supervision, such as stirring, mixing, plating, and heating.
  • Maintain impeccable cleanliness and orderliness of the kitchen area, including washing dishes, sanitizing workstations, sweeping/mopping floors, and managing waste.
  • Ensure proper storage and rotation of all food items to minimize waste, prevent spoilage, and maintain optimal freshness and safety.
  • Assist with the efficient setup and breakdown of food service areas for various events, banquets, or daily restaurant operations.
  • Adhere strictly to all health, safety, and hygiene regulations and standards as mandated by local authorities and company policies.
  • Receive, inspect, and organize deliveries of food supplies and ingredients, ensuring accuracy and proper storage.
  • Assist in monitoring inventory levels of ingredients and supplies, reporting any stock shortages to kitchen management promptly.
  • Operate basic kitchen equipment safely and efficiently, following all operational guidelines.
  • Work collaboratively and communicate effectively with kitchen staff and other team members to ensure seamless service delivery and a positive working atmosphere.

Required Skills

  • Basic understanding of fundamental food preparation techniques and kitchen procedures.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions accurately and efficiently.
  • Strong attention to detail and a steadfast commitment to cleanliness and hygiene.
  • Good physical stamina and the ability to stand for extended periods, lift moderate weights, and perform repetitive tasks.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience (at least 6 months) in a commercial kitchen or food service environment (e.g., restaurant, hotel, catering).
  • Knowledge of basic food safety and hygiene practices (e.g., HACCP principles).
  • A certificate or diploma in culinary arts, hospitality, or a related field.
  • Fluency in both Sesotho and English to effectively communicate with colleagues and guests.
