Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive Food Safety Management Systems (FSMS) in line with local and international standards (e.g., HACCP, ISO 22000).
  • Conduct regular site inspections, audits, and risk assessments of facilities, processes, and products to ensure compliance with food safety regulations and company policies.
  • Identify critical control points and potential hazards, recommending and overseeing the implementation of effective corrective and preventive actions.
  • Manage and investigate food safety incidents, customer complaints, and non-conformances, determining root causes and ensuring appropriate resolutions.
  • Provide ongoing training and guidance to staff on food safety principles, hygiene practices, sanitation procedures, and regulatory requirements.
  • Monitor and verify compliance with pest control programs, waste management, and environmental hygiene standards.
  • Collaborate with production, quality assurance, procurement, and logistics teams to integrate food safety best practices across the entire supply chain.
  • Prepare detailed reports on food safety performance, audit findings, and compliance status for management review.
  • Stay updated on relevant food safety legislation, industry best practices, and emerging risks, ensuring the company's systems remain current and effective.
  • Liaise with external regulatory bodies during inspections and audits, ensuring all required documentation and information are readily available.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Food Science, Food Technology, Microbiology, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of progressive experience in food safety or quality assurance within the food industry.
  • In-depth knowledge of local food safety regulations and international standards (e.g., HACCP, ISO 22000, GFSI schemes).
  • Proven experience in conducting internal and external audits and implementing corrective actions.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to identify problems, analyze data, and propose effective solutions.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills in English and Portuguese.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Demonstrated ability to train and mentor staff on food safety protocols.
  • Strong attention to detail and a proactive approach to problem-solving.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in a relevant field.
  • HACCP certification or equivalent food safety management system certification.
  • Experience with LIMS or other quality management software.
  • Prior experience working with diverse food product categories (e.g., fresh produce, processed foods, beverages).
  • Fluency in additional local languages.
