Job Description
As a Forestry Officer – Field Operations at Acacia Operations Management, you will play a crucial role in the management and conservation of various land parcels and ecological sites under our stewardship. This full-time position requires a proactive and dedicated individual who is passionate about forestry, environmental management, and sustainable land use practices. You will be primarily responsible for on-site monitoring, assessment, and implementation of forestry and vegetation management plans. Your work will involve regular fieldwork, data collection, and the application of best practices to maintain and restore ecological balance, particularly concerning tree health, invasive species management, and rehabilitation projects.

Key Responsibilities
- Conduct regular field inspections and assessments of forestry and vegetation assets.
- Monitor tree health, growth rates, and identify signs of disease or pest infestations.
- Implement and supervise invasive alien plant species control programmes.
- Oversee and participate in land rehabilitation and reforestation projects.
- Collect and analyse environmental data, including soil samples and vegetation cover assessments.
- Prepare detailed field reports, maps, and documentation using GIS and other relevant software.
- Ensure compliance with environmental legislation, permits, and company policies.
- Provide technical advice on forestry and land management best practices.
- Train and supervise junior field staff or contractors as required.
- Engage with local communities and stakeholders on environmental initiatives.
- Maintain accurate records of field activities, observations, and project progress.
Required Skills
- Proven experience in forestry or environmental field operations.
- Strong knowledge of silviculture, dendrology, and plant pathology.
- Proficiency in data collection, analysis, and report writing.
- Ability to use GIS software for mapping and data management.
- Excellent observational and problem-solving skills.
- Valid South African driving license and ability to travel extensively.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Physical fitness and ability to work outdoors in challenging conditions.
