Key Responsibilities
- Carefully inspect fresh fruits for defects, blemishes, signs of spoilage, and foreign materials.
- Sort fruits meticulously by size, ripeness, color, and overall quality according to established company and market standards.
- Efficiently remove any substandard, damaged, or unmarketable produce from the main processing batch.
- Assist with the accurate weighing, counting, and packaging of sorted fruits into designated containers for storage or immediate shipment.
- Maintain a consistently clean, tidy, and organized work area, strictly adhering to all hygiene, sanitation, and food safety regulations (HACCP principles).
- Promptly report any observed equipment malfunctions, significant quality deviations, or safety concerns to supervisory staff.
- Collaborate effectively and respectfully with all team members to ensure daily production targets and quality benchmarks are consistently met.
- Follow all company policies and procedures regarding product handling, quality assurance, and operational safety.
Required Skills
- Exceptional attention to detail and a keen ability to identify subtle differences in fruit quality and appearance.
- Demonstrated ability to work efficiently and maintain productivity in a fast-paced, sometimes repetitive, environment.
- Good physical stamina, including the capability of standing for extended periods and safely lifting moderate weights (up to 15 kg).
- Strong sense of responsibility, punctuality, and reliability.
- Basic understanding of personal hygiene and fundamental food safety practices.
- Ability to comprehend and accurately follow verbal and written instructions, working both independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in a fruit packing, sorting, agricultural processing, or similar food handling setting.
- Familiarity with various types of local fruits grown in Zanzibar and their specific quality indicators.
- Basic proficiency in spoken English or Swahili for effective communication within the multicultural team.
- Completion of primary or secondary education (Standard 7 or Form IV equivalent).
