Job Description
We are seeking a highly organized, detail-oriented, and proactive Full-Time Shipping Officer to join our logistics team in Mahebourg, Grand Port District. In this critical role, you will be instrumental in managing and overseeing all aspects of our shipping operations, ensuring the timely, efficient, and compliant movement of goods both inbound and outbound. The Shipping Officer will be responsible for handling a comprehensive range of tasks, from preparing shipping documentation and coordinating with freight forwarders to tracking shipments and resolving any logistical challenges that may arise. This position requires a thorough understanding of local and international shipping regulations, customs procedures, and excellent communication skills to liaise effectively with various stakeholders, including suppliers, customers, and customs officials. You will be expected to maintain accurate records, process necessary paperwork, and contribute to the continuous improvement of our shipping processes. Key Responsibilities
- Manage and process all import and export documentation, including bills of lading, customs declarations, packing lists, and commercial invoices.
- Coordinate with freight forwarders, shipping lines, and customs brokers to ensure timely clearance and delivery of goods.
- Track and monitor the status of all shipments, providing regular updates to internal teams and external stakeholders.
- Ensure full compliance with local and international shipping regulations, customs laws, and trade agreements.
- Resolve shipping discrepancies, damages, or delays by investigating issues and implementing effective solutions.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date shipping records, databases, and filing systems.
- Prepare and process claims for lost, damaged, or delayed shipments as necessary.
- Assist in negotiating freight rates and terms with shipping vendors to optimize costs.
- Liaise with warehousing and inventory teams to ensure smooth goods flow upon arrival and dispatch.
Required Skills
- Proven experience in shipping, logistics, or supply chain management.
- In-depth knowledge of international trade terms (Incoterms) and customs procedures.
- Proficiency in preparing and processing shipping documentation.
- Excellent organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).
- Problem-solving abilities and a proactive approach to challenges.
Preferred Qualifications
- A diploma or degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, or a related field.
- Experience with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) or logistics management software.
- Familiarity with the specific customs regulations of Mauritius.
- Fluency in French and English.
