Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Part-Time Gardening Landscape Worker to join our vibrant team at Matemwe Lodge in Kilima Juu, Matemwe. This is an exciting opportunity for an individual with a passion for horticulture and a commitment to maintaining the natural beauty of our lodge grounds. As a Gardening Landscape Worker, you will play a crucial role in enhancing the aesthetic appeal and ecological health of our gardens, contributing directly to the serene and luxurious guest experience that Matemwe Lodge is known for. Your work will involve a variety of tasks aimed at nurturing our tropical plants, ensuring lush landscapes, and preserving the overall pristine environment of the lodge. Key Responsibilities
- Perform general garden maintenance tasks including planting, pruning, weeding, watering, and fertilizing of plants, trees, and shrubs.
- Operate and maintain various gardening tools and equipment safely and efficiently.
- Monitor plant health, identify common pests and diseases, and apply appropriate organic treatments.
- Assist in the establishment of new garden beds and landscape features.
- Ensure pathways, communal areas, and guest villa surroundings are clean and well-maintained.
- Participate in waste management and composting efforts to support our sustainability initiatives.
- Adhere to all safety regulations and guidelines during work.
- Report any equipment malfunctions or garden issues to the supervisor.
- Collaborate effectively with other team members to achieve departmental goals.
Required Skills
- Proven experience in general gardening or landscape maintenance.
- Basic knowledge of tropical plants and their care.
- Ability to operate common gardening tools (e.g., mowers, trimmers, shovels).
- Physical stamina and ability to perform strenuous outdoor tasks in various weather conditions.
- Strong attention to detail and a proactive approach to work.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
- Reliable and punctual with a strong work ethic.
- Basic understanding of English or Swahili for communication.
Preferred Qualifications
- At least 1 year of professional experience in landscaping or horticulture.
- Knowledge of indigenous flora of Zanzibar.
- Experience with irrigation systems.
- A certificate or diploma in horticulture or a related field.
- Enthusiasm for environmental conservation and sustainable practices.
