Job Description
Maun Lodge is seeking a dedicated and experienced Groundskeeper specializing in Garden Maintenance to join our vibrant team. This full-time position is crucial for maintaining the picturesque aesthetics and ecological health of our extensive grounds and gardens, which are a cornerstone of our guest experience. The successful candidate will be responsible for a wide array of horticultural tasks, ensuring our outdoor spaces are always pristine, welcoming, and safe for our guests and staff.
As a Groundskeeper, you will play a pivotal role in creating a lasting impression on our visitors. Your daily duties will involve not just routine upkeep but also contributing to the continuous improvement and beautification of our landscapes. This includes meticulous lawn care, precise pruning of shrubs and trees, vibrant flowerbed maintenance, and effective irrigation management. You will be expected to identify and address plant health issues, manage pests sustainably, and contribute to planting new flora that enhances our lodges’ natural appeal. Beyond the green thumb, this role also requires a keen eye for general outdoor tidiness, including pathways, seating areas, and waste management within designated garden zones. You will operate various gardening equipment and tools responsibly, adhering strictly to safety protocols at all times, including the proper handling and storage of chemicals and machinery.

Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine garden maintenance including mowing, weeding, trimming, and edging lawns and garden beds.
- Prune shrubs, trees, and hedges to maintain desired shapes and health.
- Plant flowers, shrubs, and trees according to seasonal plans and design requirements.
- Operate and maintain various gardening equipment such as mowers, trimmers, blowers, and hand tools safely and effectively.
- Manage irrigation systems, ensuring efficient watering and identifying any issues or leaks.
- Monitor plant health, identify pests and diseases, and apply appropriate, sustainable treatments.
- Keep all pathways, patios, and outdoor common areas clean and free of debris.
- Dispose of green waste and other refuse properly, adhering to environmental guidelines.
- Adhere to all safety regulations and use personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
- Assist with minor repairs and maintenance of garden structures or features as needed.
- Contribute to the overall aesthetic appeal of the lodge grounds, continuously seeking improvements and proposing new ideas.
- Maintain a respectful and cooperative attitude towards guests, colleagues, and supervisors.
Required Skills
- Proven experience (1+ years) in groundskeeping, landscaping, or garden maintenance.
- Solid knowledge of plant care, horticultural practices, and common garden pests/diseases.
- Proficiency in operating various gardening equipment and hand tools safely.
- Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting, bending, kneeling, and standing for extended periods.
- Strong attention to detail and a keen eye for aesthetic presentation.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Basic understanding of irrigation principles and water conservation.
- Good communication skills and ability to follow instructions.
Preferred Qualifications
- Relevant vocational training or certification in horticulture or landscaping.
- Knowledge of indigenous Botswana flora and fauna.
- Valid driver's license (Class B/Code 08) for operating utility vehicles.
- Experience with sustainable gardening practices or organic pest control methods.
- First Aid certification.
