Job Description
The Elsa Hotel Meru is actively seeking a highly dedicated and experienced Groundskeeper with a genuine passion for landscaping and meticulous outdoor maintenance to become a vital part of our dynamic team. Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine lawn maintenance, including mowing, trimming, edging, and fertilizing, ensuring an immaculate appearance.
- Plant, cultivate, prune, and fertilize flowers, shrubs, and trees in accordance with horticultural best practices and aesthetic guidelines.
- Manage, inspect, and maintain irrigation systems, ensuring optimal functionality and efficient watering schedules.
- Implement effective pest and disease control measures for all plants, lawns, and outdoor areas.
- Keep all pathways, driveways, parking areas, and outdoor communal spaces clean, clear, and free of debris.
- Safely operate and maintain a variety of landscaping equipment, including mowers, trimmers, blowers, chainsaws, and hand tools.
- Conduct regular inspections of the grounds to identify and address maintenance needs, hazards, or concerns promptly.
- Assist with seasonal clean-ups, including leaf removal, mulching, planting seasonal flowers, and preparing for different weather conditions.
- Ensure strict compliance with all safety regulations and practices while performing duties, prioritizing personal and guest safety.
- Collaborate effectively with other hotel departments to ensure outdoor areas enhance the overall guest experience and support hotel events.
Required Skills
- Proven experience (minimum 1 year) in groundskeeping, landscaping, or a related horticultural role.
- Strong knowledge of plant care, lawn maintenance techniques, and basic irrigation system operation.
- Ability to safely and effectively operate and maintain various landscaping equipment and tools.
- Excellent attention to detail and a strong commitment to producing high-quality, aesthetically pleasing work.
- Physical stamina and ability to perform demanding outdoor tasks in various weather conditions.
- Basic understanding of common plant pests and diseases, and their respective identification and treatment.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Knowledge of safety procedures related to landscaping equipment operation and chemical handling.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certification in horticulture, landscaping, or a closely related environmental field.
- Prior experience working within a hotel, resort, or other hospitality environment.
- Familiarity with local flora, environmental conditions, and sustainable landscaping practices specific to Meru County.
- Ability to perform minor diagnostic checks and basic repairs on landscaping equipment.
- Possession of a valid Kenyan driver's license.
