As a Groundskeeper, you will be the custodian of vibrant landscapes, responsible for a wide array of tasks that ensure our parks and facilities remain pristine throughout the seasons. Your daily activities will range from meticulous lawn care, including mowing, edging, and fertilising, to the expert maintenance of flower beds, shrubs, and trees through planting, pruning, and weeding. Beyond horticulture, this role encompasses the general maintenance of park amenities such as benches, pathways, waste receptacles, and playground equipment, ensuring they are in excellent repair and safe for public use.
You will operate and maintain various landscaping equipment, from hand tools to ride-on mowers, ensuring all machinery is kept in good working order and used safely. Key Responsibilities
- Perform general grounds maintenance, including mowing, trimming, edging, and fertilising lawns.
- Plant, prune, weed, and water flowerbeds, shrubs, and trees.
- Maintain pathways, hardstanding areas, and playground surfaces.
- Operate and maintain a variety of landscaping equipment, including mowers, strimmers, hedge trimmers, and power tools.
- Conduct minor repairs and maintenance on park furniture, fences, and recreational equipment.
- Collect and dispose of litter and green waste, ensuring cleanliness of all areas.
- Perform seasonal tasks such as leaf removal, snow clearance, and gritting.
- Adhere to all health and safety regulations and environmental guidelines.
- Monitor grounds for potential hazards or maintenance issues and report them promptly.
- Assist with preparation and clean-up for community events held in parks and facilities.
Required Skills
- Proven experience in groundskeeping or landscape maintenance.
- Proficiency in operating various landscaping machinery and tools.
- Strong knowledge of horticultural practices, including planting, pruning, and pest control.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Excellent attention to detail and a proactive approach to work.
- Physical fitness and ability to perform demanding outdoor tasks in various weather conditions.
- Valid UK driving licence.
Preferred Qualifications
- NVQ Level 2 in Amenity Horticulture, Sports Turf, or a related field.
- Certification in pesticide application (PA1/PA6).
- Experience with irrigation systems maintenance.
