Job Description
Are you passionate about community well-being and skilled in communicating vital health information? PSI Botswana is seeking a dynamic and empathetic Part-Time Health Educator for Community Awareness to join our team in Moshupa, Southern District. This pivotal role involves actively engaging with local communities to promote healthy behaviors, disseminate crucial health messages, and empower individuals to take charge of their health. You will be responsible for developing and implementing health education programs on various topics, including but not limited to HIV/AIDS prevention, sexual and reproductive health, maternal and child health, non-communicable diseases, and general hygiene practices. The ideal candidate will be a compassionate communicator with a deep understanding of local cultural contexts and an ability to build trust and rapport within diverse groups. This position offers a unique opportunity to directly impact public health outcomes at the grassroots level, working closely with community leaders, local health facilities, and individuals. Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and deliver engaging health education workshops, presentations, and awareness campaigns for various community groups.
- Disseminate accurate and culturally appropriate health information on topics such as HIV/AIDS prevention, family planning, hygiene, nutrition, and non-communicable diseases.
- Organize and facilitate community dialogues, focus group discussions, and one-on-one counseling sessions to address health concerns and misconceptions.
- Collaborate with local health facilities, community leaders, and other stakeholders to identify health priorities and coordinate outreach activities.
- Develop and distribute educational materials, including brochures, posters, and fact sheets, ensuring they are accessible and impactful.
- Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of health education programs, collecting data and providing regular reports on activities and outcomes.
- Act as a trusted resource, providing guidance and support to community members seeking health information or services.
- Represent PSI Botswana at community events, health fairs, and stakeholder meetings.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge on public health issues, best practices, and relevant local health policies.
Required Skills
- Diploma or Certificate in Public Health, Community Development, Social Sciences, or a related field.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in community health education or outreach programs.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate complex health information clearly and effectively to diverse audiences.
- Strong facilitation and public speaking skills.
- Proficiency in Setswana and English (written and spoken).
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and cultural sensitivity.
- Basic computer literacy (Microsoft Office Suite).
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Public Health, Health Promotion, or a related field.
- Experience working with NGOs or community-based organizations in the Southern District.
- Knowledge of local health challenges and community dynamics in Moshupa.
- Experience in data collection and basic report writing.
- Valid driver's license (Class B) and ability to travel within the district.
