Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated, compassionate, and dedicated Healthcare Support Worker to join our dynamic team at Wete District Hospital. This full-time position is crucial to the smooth operation of our patient care services, working under the direct supervision of registered nurses and other healthcare professionals. As a Healthcare Support Worker, you will play a pivotal role in providing essential personal care and support to patients, assisting them with daily living activities, and ensuring their comfort and dignity are maintained at all times. Your contributions will directly enhance the patient experience and enable our clinical staff to focus on specialized medical tasks.

This role requires a proactive individual with a strong commitment to patient welfare, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work effectively within a fast-paced healthcare environment. You will be responsible for observing and reporting changes in patients’ conditions, assisting with mobility, feeding, and hygiene, as well as maintaining a clean and safe environment. Key Responsibilities

  • Assist patients with personal care, including bathing, dressing, grooming, and toileting, while maintaining their dignity and privacy.
  • Support patients with mobility, transferring, and positioning, ensuring their safety and comfort.
  • Monitor and record vital signs (temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure) and report any significant changes to the nursing staff.
  • Assist patients with feeding, ensuring dietary needs are met and providing encouragement.
  • Maintain a clean, tidy, and safe environment for patients, including bed making and general tidiness of patient areas.
  • Assist with the admission, transfer, and discharge of patients, ensuring all necessary documentation and procedures are followed.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, their families, and other healthcare professionals, providing emotional support and responding to requests.
  • Help with basic clinical tasks as delegated by registered nurses, such as collecting specimens and observing skin integrity.
  • Participate in ward meetings and contribute to care planning discussions.
  • Adhere to all hospital policies, procedures, and infection control guidelines.
  • Restock supplies and maintain equipment as required, ensuring availability for patient care.
