Key Responsibilities
- Operate heavy equipment such as excavators, bulldozers, loaders, graders, compactors, and other construction equipment in a safe and efficient manner.
- Perform daily pre-operation and post-operation inspections on equipment, reporting any mechanical issues or maintenance needs promptly.
- Adhere strictly to all company safety policies, procedures, and OSHA regulations to ensure a safe working environment for all personnel.
- Read and interpret blueprints, grade stakes, and other visual aids to ensure accurate and precise execution of tasks according to project plans.
- Coordinate effectively with site supervisors, engineers, and other crew members to ensure project specifications and deadlines are consistently met.
- Perform basic maintenance and cleaning of equipment to ensure optimal performance, longevity, and to minimize downtime.
- Excavate, backfill, grade, and compact earth, rock, and other materials with precision and according to design specifications.
- Load and unload materials, including dirt, gravel, and asphalt, onto and from trucks efficiently and safely.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area, contributing to overall site safety, efficiency, and professional appearance.
Required Skills
- Proven experience operating multiple types of heavy construction equipment, with a strong emphasis on safety.
- Strong understanding of excavation, grading, and site preparation techniques.
- Excellent hand-eye coordination, depth perception, and spatial awareness.
- Ability to read and interpret construction plans, blueprints, and grade stakes accurately.
- Thorough knowledge of safety procedures and regulations, including OSHA standards and best practices.
- Mechanical aptitude for performing basic equipment inspections and troubleshooting minor issues.
- Effective communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced team environment.
- Physical stamina and ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions, including heat, cold, and rain.
Preferred Qualifications
- NCCER or other relevant heavy equipment operator certifications.
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Experience with GPS-enabled grading systems and other advanced technology.
- Valid Class A CDL (Commercial Driver's License).
- First Aid and CPR certification.
