Key Responsibilities
- Welcome visitors warmly, manage admissions, and provide comprehensive information about the site's history, features, and exhibits.
- Assist with the day-to-day maintenance and cleanliness of the heritage site, including general tidying, minor repairs, and outdoor area upkeep.
- Support the curation and presentation of exhibits, ensuring all displays are well-maintained, secure, and clearly labelled.
- Help organise and facilitate educational programs, workshops, and special events, engaging visitors of all ages.
- Monitor the site for security and safety, reporting any incidents or hazards promptly to senior staff.
- Handle sales of merchandise, tickets, and guidebooks, accurately managing transactions and inventory.
- Contribute to the development of interpretive materials, ensuring accuracy and appeal to a diverse audience.
Required Skills
- Proven interest in history, archaeology, or cultural heritage.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a friendly and approachable demeanour.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
- Proficiency in basic computer applications (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite).
- Physical stamina to perform duties that may include standing for long periods, light lifting, and working outdoors in various weather conditions.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in a museum, heritage site, or visitor services role.
- Knowledge of local history pertaining to Scarborough or North Yorkshire.
- Experience with point-of-sale (POS) systems.
- A relevant degree or qualification in History, Archaeology, Museum Studies, or a related field.
