Job Description

Career.zycto is seeking a dedicated Part-Time Hockey Coach to join our dynamic sports program in Downtown Laurel. This is an incredible opportunity to make a tangible impact on aspiring athletes, helping them not only refine their hockey skills but also instill critical life lessons such as teamwork, discipline, resilience, and sportsmanship. As a Hockey Coach with Career.zycto, you will be responsible for leading engaging and effective practice sessions, designing progressive drills, and developing comprehensive game strategies tailored to various skill levels and age groups. You will provide individualized feedback and constructive criticism, always aiming to uplift and empower each player. We are looking for someone who can create an engaging, positive, and challenging environment, fostering both athletic and personal growth while prioritizing player safety and well-being. You will collaborate closely with other coaching staff, program coordinators, and parents to ensure a cohesive and supportive experience for all participants. This includes developing progressive curricula that align with our organizational goals for player development, competitive success, and overall enjoyment of the sport. Our ideal candidate possesses a deep understanding of hockey fundamentals, advanced techniques, tactical strategies, and current coaching methodologies. Beyond the rink, you will act as a crucial mentor, guiding players through both on-ice challenges and off-ice personal development, celebrating their successes, and encouraging a lifelong passion for physical activity and healthy competition. Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize, and lead engaging and effective hockey practice sessions for assigned teams/age groups.
  • Develop and implement game strategies, tactics, and player development plans.
  • Provide constructive, individualized feedback to players on their performance and technique.
  • Foster a positive, inclusive, and disciplined team environment that promotes sportsmanship and teamwork.
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of all players during practices, games, and team events.
  • Communicate regularly and effectively with players, parents, and fellow coaching staff regarding schedules, progress, and program updates.
  • Attend all scheduled practices, games, and team meetings.
  • Assist with equipment management and facility setup/takedown as needed.
  • Uphold the values and code of conduct of Career.zycto.

Required Skills

  • Proficiency in hockey fundamentals, rules, and advanced techniques.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, motivate, and mentor young athletes.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organizational and time management abilities.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a coaching team.
  • First Aid and CPR certification (or willingness to obtain).
  • Knowledge of player safety protocols and injury prevention.

Preferred Qualifications

  • USA Hockey Level 2 or higher coaching certification.
  • Previous competitive hockey playing experience at a high school, collegiate, or professional level.
  • Experience coaching multiple age groups and skill levels.
  • Familiarity with various coaching methodologies and player development models.
  • Experience with video analysis software for player feedback.
