Prospects UK is seeking a dedicated and self-motivated Home-Based Career Guidance Advisor to join our dynamic team, supporting clients across Scotland with a particular focus on the Edinburgh region. This unique opportunity allows you to leverage your expertise from the comfort of your home office, providing invaluable career advice and support to a diverse client base.

In this pivotal role, you will deliver impartial, high-quality career guidance, helping individuals identify their strengths, explore various career options, develop effective job search strategies, and overcome barriers to employment or progression. You will conduct one-on-one virtual consultations, develop personalised career action plans, and facilitate engaging online workshops. Our clients range from school leavers and graduates to experienced professionals seeking career changes or upskilling opportunities, making every interaction unique and rewarding. You will be instrumental in helping individuals navigate complex labour markets, understand educational pathways, and connect with relevant resources.

We are looking for someone who can build rapport quickly, listen actively, and communicate complex information clearly and concisely. You will be proficient in utilising various digital platforms for virtual consultations and resource sharing. While home-based, you will be an integral part of our national team, collaborating with colleagues and participating in regular virtual team meetings and professional development sessions. Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct virtual one-on-one career guidance interviews with clients, offering impartial advice and support.
  • Develop personalised career action plans tailored to individual client needs, goals, and circumstances.
  • Assist clients in identifying skills, exploring career options, and understanding educational and training pathways.
  • Provide expert guidance on CV writing, interview techniques, job search strategies, and application processes.
  • Facilitate and deliver engaging online workshops and group sessions on various career development topics.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential client records in line with GDPR and company policies.
  • Stay up-to-date with current labour market information, educational opportunities, and career trends, particularly within Scotland.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external partners to enhance service delivery and client outcomes.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development and training to maintain high standards of practice.

Required Skills

  • A Level 6 (or equivalent) qualification in Career Guidance and Development or a related field.
  • Proven experience delivering career guidance to diverse client groups.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey complex information clearly.
  • Strong active listening and empathetic counselling skills.
  • Proficiency in using digital communication and online guidance platforms (e.g., video conferencing tools).
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills, with the ability to manage a caseload effectively.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a virtual team.
  • Strong understanding of the Scottish education and employment landscape.
  • Commitment to continuous professional development.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in a remote or home-based guidance role.
  • Knowledge of specific career assessment tools and techniques.
  • Experience delivering virtual group workshops or presentations.
  • Membership of a relevant professional body (e.g., Career Development Institute).
