Job Description

Career.zycto is seeking a dedicated and empathetic Full-Time Hospice Worker to join our compassionate team in Shaughnessy, Vancouver. In this crucial role, you will provide essential comfort, care, and support to individuals nearing the end of their lives, as well as their families. This position requires a profound sense of empathy, strong communication skills, and the ability to work effectively within an interdisciplinary team focused on holistic, patient-centered care. Key Responsibilities

  • Provide compassionate personal care, including bathing, dressing, and mobility assistance, adhering to patient care plans.
  • Monitor and report changes in patient condition, behavior, and comfort levels to the nursing and palliative care team.
  • Offer emotional support and companionship to patients, respecting their individual needs and preferences.
  • Assist with light housekeeping, meal preparation, and feeding as required to maintain a comfortable living environment.
  • Support patient families by providing practical assistance, empathy, and information within the scope of practice.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of care provided and observations made.
  • Collaborate effectively with nurses, social workers, physicians, and other healthcare professionals to ensure coordinated care.
  • Adhere to all safety protocols, infection control measures, and company policies and procedures.
  • Participate in team meetings and educational opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge.
  • Promote a sense of dignity, respect, and peace for all patients in their final journey.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience in a caregiving or healthcare support role, preferably in hospice or palliative care.
  • Exceptional empathy, patience, and compassion.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Excellent observation and critical thinking skills.
  • Physical ability to assist patients with mobility and personal care.
  • Reliable and punctual with a strong work ethic.
  • Cultural sensitivity and the ability to work with diverse populations.
  • Basic computer proficiency for documentation.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certification as a Health Care Assistant (HCA) or equivalent from a recognized program.
  • Current CPR and First Aid certification.
  • Knowledge of end-of-life care principles and practices.
  • Experience with grief and bereavement support.
  • Fluency in additional languages relevant to the Vancouver community.
