Career.zycto is seeking dedicated and meticulous Hospital Cleaner Support Staff to join our valued team, serving a reputable healthcare facility in Nyeri, Nyeri County. This vital role ensures the highest standards of cleanliness, hygiene, and infection control within a hospital environment, directly contributing to patient safety and comfort. As a Cleaner Support Staff, you will be responsible for maintaining sterile and inviting spaces, from patient rooms and operating theaters to waiting areas and administrative offices. Your commitment to detail and adherence to strict health and safety protocols are paramount in preventing the spread of infections and supporting a healing atmosphere. Key Responsibilities

  • Perform routine cleaning tasks, including dusting, sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, and polishing of floors, surfaces, and fixtures across all hospital areas.
  • Sanitize and disinfect high-touch surfaces, medical equipment (non-critical), and patient care areas in strict accordance with hospital infection control policies and procedures.
  • Empty and dispose of waste bins, including general waste, clinical waste, and sharps, following established hazardous waste management protocols.
  • Clean and maintain restrooms, ensuring they are hygienic and adequately stocked with supplies.
  • Replenish supplies such as hand soap, paper towels, and toilet paper in designated areas.
  • Operate and maintain cleaning equipment safely and efficiently, reporting any malfunctions or maintenance needs promptly.
  • Adhere strictly to all health and safety regulations, including the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and cleaning chemicals.
  • Assist with laundry duties, including collecting, sorting, and transporting soiled linens, and distributing clean linens as required.
  • Respond promptly to emergency spills or cleaning requests, ensuring a quick and effective resolution.
  • Maintain a professional and respectful demeanor when interacting with patients, visitors, and hospital staff.

Required Skills

  • Proven ability to follow instructions and work independently or as part of a team.
  • Strong attention to detail and a thorough approach to cleaning tasks.
  • Good physical stamina and the ability to stand, walk, bend, lift, and push/pull for extended periods.
  • Reliability, punctuality, and a strong sense of responsibility.
  • Basic understanding of health and safety regulations, particularly in a healthcare environment.
  • Effective communication skills to interact courteously with staff and public.
  • Ability to work flexible shifts, including evenings, weekends, and public holidays, as needed.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience (6+ months) in a cleaning role, especially within a hospital, healthcare, or similar institutional setting.
  • Knowledge of infection control principles and practices.
  • Certification in cleaning and hygiene practices (e.g., NITA certificate in housekeeping).
