Job Description

Kichanga Lodge is actively seeking an experienced and reliable Hotel Laundry Operator for immediate hire to join our vibrant team in Michamvi, Zanzibar South & Central. This is a critical role that directly impacts our guest satisfaction and the overall presentation of our beautiful lodge. As a Laundry Operator, you will be the backbone of our linen management, ensuring that all our fabrics – from luxurious bedsheets and fluffy towels to staff uniforms and restaurant linen – are processed with the utmost care and efficiency. We are looking for someone who is proactive, physically fit, and capable of handling laundry operations in a fast-paced hospitality environment. You will be responsible for the entire laundry cycle, from sorting and washing to drying, ironing, and folding, all while adhering to strict hygiene and quality control protocols. Key Responsibilities
- Sort all laundry items (linens, towels, uniforms, etc.) according to fabric type, color, and degree of soiling.
- Operate commercial washing, drying, and ironing machines safely and efficiently, following manufacturer guidelines.
- Inspect all items for stains and damage, pre-treating as necessary to ensure pristine condition before washing.
- Fold, stack, and organize clean linen and towels neatly, preparing them for distribution to guest rooms and other departments.
- Maintain a detailed inventory of laundry supplies and report shortages to the supervisor promptly to ensure continuous operation.
- Perform routine cleaning and basic preventative maintenance of laundry equipment, reporting any malfunctions or necessary repairs immediately.
- Adhere strictly to all health, safety, and hygiene standards and procedures, including proper handling of chemicals.
- Ensure timely processing of laundry to meet the operational demands of the lodge and guest expectations.
- Assist with other hotel operations as needed, maintaining a flexible and cooperative attitude within the team.
- Minimize wastage of water, electricity, and laundry chemicals through careful and efficient use of resources.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a Laundry Operator or similar role, preferably in a hotel or hospitality setting (minimum 1 year).
- Familiarity with commercial laundry equipment and processes, including sorting, washing, drying, and pressing.
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to high-quality output and cleanliness.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Physical stamina to stand for extended periods, lift heavy laundry bags, and perform repetitive tasks.
- Excellent time management and organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
- Basic understanding of English or Swahili for effective communication within the team.
- Reliable and punctual with a strong work ethic and a proactive approach to duties.
Preferred Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent education.
- Knowledge of different fabric types and appropriate cleaning methods for each.
- Experience with advanced stain removal techniques for various types of stains.
- Basic knowledge of machine troubleshooting and minor repairs on laundry equipment.
