Key Responsibilities
- Warmly greet guests upon arrival, present menus, and explain daily specials with enthusiasm and clarity.
- Accurately take food and beverage orders, paying close attention to detail and noting any special requests, dietary restrictions, or allergies.
- Serve food and beverages promptly and professionally, adhering to established service standards and maintaining high standards of presentation.
- Monitor guest satisfaction throughout their meal, anticipating needs and addressing any concerns proactively.
- Clear tables efficiently and discreetly after meals, ensuring that dining areas are clean, organized, and reset for the next guests.
- Handle guest inquiries, complaints, and special requests with patience, empathy, and a solution-oriented approach.
- Process payments accurately and efficiently using the hotel's point-of-sale (POS) system.
- Maintain the cleanliness and organization of the dining area, including tables, chairs, cutlery, glassware, and service stations.
- Collaborate effectively with kitchen staff, bar staff, and other team members to ensure smooth service operations and a cohesive guest experience.
- Adhere strictly to all health, safety, and hygiene standards and regulations, particularly concerning food handling and service.
- Assist with inventory management, restocking of dining essentials, and maintaining par levels as needed.
- Provide thoughtful recommendations and upsell menu items where appropriate to enhance the guest experience and increase revenue.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a Waiter/Waitress in a hotel or restaurant setting (minimum 6 months).
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage positively with diverse guests.
- Strong customer service orientation with a naturally friendly, approachable, and professional demeanor.
- Ability to work efficiently, prioritize tasks, and remain composed in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
- Basic math skills for accurately handling payments, making change, and calculating bills.
- Physical stamina to stand and walk for extended periods, lift moderate weights (e.g., trays), and carry out duties requiring mobility.
- Solid understanding of food safety, hygiene regulations, and responsible alcohol service (if applicable).
- Fluency in English and Sesotho is essential for effective communication with guests and colleagues.
Preferred Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent qualification.
- Formal training or certification in hospitality, food service, or culinary arts.
- Previous experience with point-of-sale (POS) systems specific to the hospitality industry.
- In-depth knowledge of local Basotho cuisine and beverages, including traditional dishes and regional specialties.
- Flexibility to work various shifts, including mornings, evenings, weekends, and public holidays, as per hotel operational needs.
