Job Description
Are you a meticulous and detail-oriented professional with a passion for accuracy and employee well-being? Giant Tiger is seeking a dedicated HR Payroll Assistant to join our dynamic Human Resources team at our corporate headquarters in Ottawa. In this crucial full-time role, you will be instrumental in ensuring the precise and timely processing of our bi-weekly payroll for a diverse workforce, playing a key part in the overall employee experience. You will collaborate closely with HR and Finance departments, providing essential administrative support, maintaining confidential employee records, and contributing to the smooth operation of our HR and payroll functions. Key Responsibilities
- Process bi-weekly payroll for a large employee base, ensuring accuracy and adherence to company policies and collective agreements.
- Maintain employee data in the HRIS and payroll systems, including new hires, terminations, promotions, salary changes, and benefits deductions.
- Respond to employee inquiries regarding payroll, benefits, and HR policies with professionalism and confidentiality.
- Prepare and distribute pay stubs, T4s, Records of Employment (ROEs), and other payroll-related documentation.
- Assist with the administration of employee benefits programs, including enrollment, changes, and reconciliation.
- Support HR team with various administrative tasks, including filing, data entry, and report generation.
- Reconcile payroll data, identify discrepancies, and resolve issues promptly.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant provincial and federal payroll legislation and company policies.
- Assist in year-end payroll processing and audits.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the HR and payroll functions.
Required Skills
- Minimum 1-2 years of experience in payroll processing or an HR administrative role.
- Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel (intermediate level).
- Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain strict confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
- Basic understanding of Canadian payroll legislation and employment standards.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
Preferred Qualifications
- Post-secondary education in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) certification or working towards certification.
- Experience with major HRIS and payroll software (e.g., ADP, Ceridian, Workday).
- Familiarity with the retail industry's payroll complexities.
