Key Responsibilities

  • Process bi-weekly and monthly payroll for all employees, ensuring accuracy and compliance with company policies and relevant legislation.
  • Maintain and update employee records in the HRIS system, accurately reflecting new hires, terminations, compensation changes, and other personnel data.
  • Verify timesheets, calculate wages, deductions, withholdings, and other adjustments for payroll processing.
  • Prepare and distribute pay stubs and year-end tax forms (e.g., T4s) to employees.
  • Respond to employee inquiries regarding payroll, benefits, and HR policies in a timely and professional manner.
  • Assist with the onboarding process for new employees, including documentation, system setup, and initial orientation support.
  • Support various HR initiatives and projects, such as policy updates, employee engagement activities, and training coordination.
  • Ensure strict compliance with provincial (Alberta) and federal employment standards, tax regulations, and other relevant legal requirements.
  • Reconcile payroll data, prepare comprehensive payroll reports, and provide analytical insights for management as needed.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of all payroll, benefits, and sensitive human resources information at all times.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience (1-2 years) as an HR Payroll Assistant or in a similar administrative role with payroll responsibilities.
  • Solid understanding of payroll processes, procedures, and relevant Canadian (specifically Alberta) employment and tax legislation.
  • Proficiency in HRIS and payroll software (experience with ADP, Ceridian, or similar systems is highly valued).
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel, for data analysis and reporting.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and unwavering commitment to accuracy in all tasks.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet strict deadlines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities, fostering clear and professional interactions.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle confidential information with the utmost discretion and integrity.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education (diploma or degree) in Human Resources, Business Administration, Accounting, or a related field.
  • PCP (Payroll Compliance Practitioner) certification or actively working towards completion.
  • Familiarity with benefits administration processes and vendor communication.
  • Experience working in a professional services environment.
