Job Description
Marondera University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology (MUAST) is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic HVAC Maintenance Helper to join our Facilities Department. In this crucial supportive role, you will work closely with our experienced HVAC technicians to ensure the efficient operation, maintenance, and repair of all heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems across the university campus. This is an excellent opportunity for an individual with a strong work ethic and a desire to learn and grow within the HVAC field. You will assist in performing routine preventative maintenance tasks, responding to service calls, and contributing to a comfortable and conducive learning and working environment for students and staff. Your day-to-day responsibilities will involve hands-on tasks, preparing tools and materials, and adhering to strict safety protocols. The ideal candidate will be physically capable, eager to follow instructions, and committed to contributing positively to our vibrant university community. We are looking for someone who takes initiative, is meticulous in their work, and understands the importance of maintaining critical building systems. Key Responsibilities
- Assist HVAC technicians in the installation, maintenance, and repair of HVAC systems and components.
- Perform routine preventative maintenance tasks such as cleaning coils, changing air filters, and lubricating moving parts.
- Help diagnose and troubleshoot HVAC equipment malfunctions under direct supervision.
- Prepare work areas, gather tools, and retrieve parts and supplies needed for maintenance and repair jobs.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of HVAC equipment, tools, and work vehicles.
- Support in the documentation of maintenance activities, including work orders and equipment logs.
- Adhere strictly to all university safety procedures and industry regulations.
- Provide general assistance to the Facilities Department as required, especially during emergencies.
- Learn and apply basic HVAC principles and practices, aiming for continuous skill development.
Required Skills
- Basic mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn HVAC systems.
- Physical stamina and ability to perform tasks requiring lifting, bending, climbing, and standing for extended periods.
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions accurately.

Preferred Qualifications
- A vocational certificate or diploma in a relevant technical field (e.g., plumbing, electrical, general maintenance).

- Valid Class 4 driver's license.
