Key Responsibilities

  • Assist senior chefs with the preparation, cooking, and presentation of a wide range of dishes for catering events.
  • Learn and master various cooking techniques, knife skills, and kitchen equipment operation under supervision.
  • Ensure all food items are prepared to the highest standards of taste, quality, and presentation.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and hygienic workstation and assist with general kitchen cleaning duties.
  • Monitor and manage inventory levels of ingredients, reporting needs to senior staff.
  • Adhere strictly to all food safety, hygiene, and sanitation regulations (HACCP principles).
  • Collaborate effectively with team members to ensure smooth kitchen operations and timely service.
  • Take initiative to learn new recipes, cooking methods, and kitchen procedures.
  • Assist with receiving and storing food supplies correctly.

Preferred Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Basic culinary certificate or diploma from a recognized institution (or currently enrolled).
  • Previous experience in a kitchen environment (e.g., school cafeteria, restaurant, or volunteer work) is a plus, but not essential.
  • Valid Food Handler's Permit (or willingness to obtain one immediately upon hire).
  • Knowledge of local Jamaican cuisine is an advantage.
