Key Responsibilities
- Efficiently operate and maintain commercial dishwashing machines, ensuring optimal performance and cleanliness.
- Perform careful hand washing of specific items, including delicate kitchenware, oversized pots, and specialized pans.
- Ensure all dishes, cutlery, glasses, serving ware, and kitchen equipment are thoroughly cleaned, sanitized, dried, and stored in their designated places.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and hygienic dishwashing area at all times, including sinks, countertops, shelving, and floors.
- Assist with the general cleanliness and upkeep of the main kitchen area, including sweeping, mopping, and ensuring waste disposal is managed effectively and hygienically.
- Safely handle and store cleaning chemicals in accordance with established safety guidelines and resort protocols.
- Adhere strictly to all health and safety regulations, food safety standards, and resort-specific hygiene protocols.
- Provide proactive support to the culinary team by ensuring a continuous and timely supply of clean equipment, anticipating needs during busy periods.
- Promptly report any equipment malfunctions, maintenance needs, or safety concerns to the kitchen supervisor.
- Participate actively in periodic deep cleaning tasks of the kitchen, storage areas, and equipment as required by management.
- Assist with receiving and storing deliveries of kitchen supplies and dry goods when necessary.
Required Skills
- Physical stamina and ability to stand for extended periods, bend, lift moderate weights (up to 25kg), and perform repetitive tasks.
- High level of reliability, punctuality, and a consistent attendance record.
- Strong attention to detail and an unwavering commitment to maintaining the highest standards of cleanliness and hygiene.
- Ability to work effectively, efficiently, and calmly in a fast-paced, high-pressure kitchen environment.
- Basic understanding of kitchen hygiene, sanitation practices, and food safety principles.
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions accurately and work both independently and as a cooperative member of a team.
- Positive attitude, strong work ethic, and a willingness to learn and adapt.
- Good communication skills to interact effectively with other kitchen staff.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience (at least 6 months) in a dishwashing or kitchen assistant role, preferably within a hotel, resort, or high-volume restaurant setting.
- Familiarity with commercial kitchen operations and equipment.
- Basic knowledge of Swahili for effective communication with local team members.
- Ability to adapt quickly to changing priorities and flexible work schedules, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
