You will be responsible for performing a wide array of laboratory tests across different departments, including haematology, biochemistry, microbiology, and serology, ensuring adherence to strict quality control standards and safety protocols. Your expertise will directly support clinicians in providing timely and effective healthcare solutions, making a real difference in the community we serve. You will operate and maintain sophisticated laboratory equipment, troubleshoot technical issues, and ensure proper calibration. You will also contribute to maintaining detailed records of all tests performed, results, and quality control data, facilitating seamless operations and compliance with regulatory bodies. Key Responsibilities

  • Perform a variety of routine and specialized diagnostic tests on biological samples (blood, urine, tissue, etc.) using automated and manual techniques.
  • Operate, calibrate, and maintain laboratory equipment and instruments, ensuring optimal performance and troubleshooting minor issues.
  • Adhere strictly to laboratory safety protocols, quality control procedures, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Prepare reagents, stains, and solutions according to established guidelines.
  • Record, interpret, and report test results accurately and promptly to clinicians, maintaining patient confidentiality.
  • Participate in internal and external quality assurance programs to ensure the reliability of results.
  • Manage and organize laboratory supplies, ensuring adequate stock levels and proper storage.
  • Assist in the training and mentorship of junior technicians or interns.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe working environment.
  • Communicate effectively with medical staff, patients, and other laboratory personnel.

Required Skills

  • Diploma in Medical Laboratory Sciences or equivalent from a recognized institution.
  • Valid practicing license from the Kenya Medical Laboratory Technicians and Technologists Board (KMLTTB).
  • Proficiency in performing a wide range of laboratory tests including haematology, biochemistry, microbiology, and serology.
  • Demonstrated experience with laboratory information systems (LIS).
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in all laboratory procedures.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and Swahili.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Sciences.
  • Certification in specific laboratory techniques or instrumentation.
  • Experience with advanced diagnostic platforms and molecular testing.
  • Additional training in quality management systems or laboratory accreditation.
  • Proven experience in a busy diagnostic centre or hospital laboratory setting.
