Job Description

Mount Kenya University is seeking a highly motivated, dynamic, and experienced Lecturer to join our esteemed faculty in Thika, Kiambu County. This position involves teaching a diverse range of undergraduate and postgraduate courses, providing academic guidance and mentorship to students, and actively participating in departmental and university-wide initiatives. Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver high-quality lectures, tutorials, and seminars to undergraduate and postgraduate students.
  • Develop and update course materials, syllabi, and teaching aids in line with university standards and industry trends.
  • Assess student performance through examinations, assignments, and practical sessions, providing timely and constructive feedback.
  • Mentor and advise students on academic matters, career development, and research projects.
  • Supervise student research projects, dissertations, and theses.
  • Actively engage in scholarly research, publish in peer-reviewed journals, and present findings at conferences.
  • Participate in curriculum review and development to ensure relevance and quality of academic programs.
  • Contribute to the administrative duties of the department and faculty, including committee work and student recruitment.
  • Engage in community service and outreach activities relevant to the university's mission.
  • Foster a collaborative and inclusive learning environment that promotes student engagement and success.

Required Skills

  • Demonstrated expertise in the relevant academic discipline.
  • Excellent pedagogical skills and a passion for teaching.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • An earned PhD or actively pursuing a PhD in a relevant field from a recognized institution.
  • At least 3 years of teaching experience at university/college level.
  • Evidence of successful grant applications or externally funded research projects.
  • Experience in online teaching and blended learning approaches.
  • Participation in professional development programs related to higher education pedagogy.
  • Experience in curriculum design and accreditation processes.
