You will be responsible for a broad range of legal matters, including commercial contracts, intellectual property, data privacy (GDPR, PIPEDA), corporate governance, and employment law. Your expertise will be vital in advising senior management on potential legal risks and opportunities, helping us navigate complex regulatory frameworks inherent in the HR tech industry. This role demands a keen analytical mind, excellent communication skills, and the ability to translate complex legal concepts into clear, actionable business advice.
Working closely with various departments, from product development and sales to human resources and finance, you will act as a trusted legal partner, proactively identifying and mitigating risks while fostering a culture of compliance. You will draft, review, and negotiate a variety of agreements, ensuring they align with company policy and legal requirements. Key Responsibilities
- Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of commercial contracts, including vendor agreements, client contracts, and partnership agreements.
- Provide expert legal advice and guidance to internal stakeholders on corporate law, intellectual property, data privacy (GDPR, PIPEDA), employment law, and regulatory compliance.
- Develop and implement legal policies and procedures to ensure the company's operations adhere to local, provincial, and federal laws.
- Identify and mitigate potential legal risks across the business, offering proactive solutions and strategic counsel to senior management.
- Manage and oversee legal disputes, litigation, and claims, coordinating with external counsel as required.
- Stay informed of new laws and regulations relevant to the HR tech industry and communicate their implications to the business.
- Assist in corporate governance matters and ensure compliance with internal corporate policies.
- Conduct legal research and analysis to support business initiatives and special projects.
Required Skills
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) or Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) degree from an accredited institution.
- Membership in good standing with the Barreau du Québec.
- Minimum of 5 years of post-call experience practicing corporate/commercial law, preferably within a technology or HR-related industry.
- Proven expertise in drafting and negotiating complex commercial contracts.
- Strong knowledge of Canadian privacy laws (PIPEDA) and international regulations (GDPR).
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
- Superior written and verbal communication skills in both English and French.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

- Experience working in an in-house legal department.
- Background in intellectual property law or SaaS licensing.
- Familiarity with the legal aspects of artificial intelligence or machine learning applications.
