Job Description
Career.zycto is seeking a highly organized, proactive, and detail-oriented Legal Assistant to join a dynamic legal team in Sutton Coldfield, Birmingham. This pivotal role involves providing comprehensive support across various legal functions, with a strong emphasis on drafting legal documents, managing case files, and offering critical administrative and logistical assistance to our legal professionals. The ideal candidate will be instrumental in ensuring the smooth operation of daily legal processes, maintaining the highest standards of accuracy and efficiency. You will play a crucial role in preparing correspondence, pleadings, contracts, and other legal documents, adhering strictly to established templates and legal requirements. Key Responsibilities
- Draft and prepare a variety of legal documents, including correspondence, pleadings, motions, agreements, and reports, ensuring accuracy and compliance with legal standards.
- Manage and maintain physical and electronic case files, ensuring all documents are accurately categorized, filed, and easily retrievable.
- Assist with e-filing procedures, court filings, and service of process in accordance with local court rules and deadlines.
- Conduct preliminary legal research using various databases and resources to support ongoing cases and document preparation.
- Liaise effectively with clients, counsel, court personnel, and third parties, handling inquiries and providing updates with professionalism and discretion.
- Schedule appointments, meetings, and court dates, and manage attorneys' calendars and diaries.
- Prepare bundles, presentations, and other materials for meetings, hearings, and trials.
- Process incoming and outgoing mail, manage office supplies, and perform general administrative tasks as required.
- Support the billing process by accurately recording billable hours and expenses, and assist with invoice preparation.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a Legal Assistant or in a similar administrative legal role.
- Excellent proficiency in drafting and reviewing legal documents.
- Strong organizational skills with meticulous attention to detail.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication abilities.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and legal case management software.
- Ability to prioritize tasks, manage time effectively, and meet deadlines under pressure.
- A solid understanding of legal terminology, court procedures, and document management.
Preferred Qualifications
- A paralegal certificate or equivalent qualification (e.g., CILEx Level 3 or 6).
- Experience with specific legal areas such as family law, property law, or litigation.
- Familiarity with UK legal aid processes and regulations.
- Proficiency in document management systems like iManage, NetDocs, or similar platforms.
