Key Responsibilities
- Draft, review, and proofread legal documents, correspondence, and pleadings with meticulous attention to detail.
- Manage and organize physical and electronic client files, ensuring accuracy, accessibility, and strict confidentiality.
- Conduct legal research using various databases under the supervision of attorneys, synthesizing findings effectively.
- Schedule appointments, court dates, meetings, and manage attorney calendars efficiently to optimize workflow.
- Prepare and process court filings and e-filings, strictly adhering to deadlines and procedural rules.
- Liaise professionally with clients, court personnel, opposing counsel, and other external parties.
- Assist in preparing for trials, hearings, and depositions, including compiling exhibits and witness lists.
- Maintain accurate time entries for billing purposes and assist with various accounting procedures.
- Perform general administrative duties such as answering phones, managing mail, and ordering office supplies.
Required Skills
- Proficiency in legal research tools (e.g., LexisNexis, Westlaw, Kenyan legal databases)
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills in English
- Strong organizational and time management abilities, with proven multitasking capacity
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
- High level of attention to detail and accuracy in all tasks
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and exercise discretion
- Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team
- Familiarity with Kenyan legal terminology and court procedures
Preferred Qualifications
- Diploma or Certificate in Legal Studies or Paralegal Studies from a recognized institution
- Experience with case management software (e.g., Clio, MyCase)
- Basic understanding of different legal practice areas (e.g., corporate law, litigation, real estate)
- Ability to speak Swahili fluently
- Previous experience working in a law firm environment in Kenya
