Job Description

Tanganda Tea Company Limited is seeking a meticulous and dedicated Legal Researcher to join our dynamic team in Chipinge, Manicaland Province. In this crucial role, you will be instrumental in supporting our legal department by providing comprehensive and accurate legal research, analysis, and insights. The legal landscape for agricultural companies is complex, encompassing land tenure, environmental regulations, labor laws, commercial contracts, and international trade compliance. Your expertise will directly inform strategic decisions, mitigate risks, and ensure the company’s adherence to all relevant legal frameworks.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct thorough and precise legal research on a wide range of topics pertinent to the company's operations, including corporate law, contract law, property law, environmental law, labor law, and international trade regulations.
  • Analyze statutes, regulations, judicial decisions, and legal articles to identify relevant information and implications for the company.
  • Prepare comprehensive legal memorandums, reports, and summaries of research findings for legal counsel and senior management.
  • Monitor legal developments, legislative changes, and regulatory updates that could impact the company's business activities in Zimbabwe and international markets.
  • Assist in the drafting and review of legal documents, contracts, policies, and procedures to ensure compliance with applicable laws.
  • Maintain an organized and accessible legal research database and resource library.
  • Support the legal team in preparing for litigation, negotiations, and regulatory interactions.
  • Collaborate with various internal departments (e.g., Human Resources, Estates Management, Finance, Export) to provide legal insights and ensure compliance across the organization.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree from a recognized institution.
  • Proven experience in legal research methodologies and tools (e.g., online legal databases, libraries).
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills with the ability to interpret complex legal information.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • High level of integrity, discretion, and ethical conduct.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks simultaneously under pressure.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Post-graduate qualification in Law or a related field (e.g., LLM).
  • Experience working in a corporate legal department or a law firm specializing in corporate, commercial, or environmental law.
  • Familiarity with Zimbabwean agricultural laws and regulations.
