Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and enthusiastic Lighting Technician to join our vibrant network of production professionals. This pivotal role involves the complete lifecycle of lighting for a diverse range of events, including corporate functions, concerts, theatrical productions, and private celebrations. As a Lighting Technician, you will be instrumental in transforming creative visions into spectacular visual realities, contributing significantly to the overall success and atmosphere of each event. From initial conceptualization and design input to the meticulous setup, programming, operation, and eventual breakdown of lighting systems, your expertise will be crucial.
This position requires a hands-on approach, a keen eye for detail, and a deep understanding of lighting principles and equipment. You’ll be working with a variety of intelligent lights, conventional fixtures, control consoles, and associated rigging. Key Responsibilities
- Design, rig, focus, and operate lighting equipment for a wide range of live events and productions, including concerts, conferences, theatrical shows, and special events.
- Program lighting consoles (e.g., GrandMA, Avolites, Hog4) to create dynamic lighting cues and sequences.
- Conduct pre-event equipment checks, maintenance, and troubleshooting to ensure all lighting systems are fully functional and safe.
- Collaborate effectively with production managers, stage managers, directors, and other technical crew to integrate lighting seamlessly with sound, video, and set design.
- Adhere strictly to all health and safety regulations and best practices related to rigging, electrical work, and working at heights.
- Assist with the loading, unloading, transportation, and safe storage of lighting equipment.
- Provide creative input and technical solutions to enhance the visual impact of events.
- Manage and maintain inventory of lighting fixtures, cables, dimmers, and accessories.
- Stay updated with the latest advancements in lighting technology, software, and industry trends.
Required Skills
- Proficiency in operating various lighting consoles and control software.
- Strong understanding of DMX, Art-Net, and other lighting protocols.
- Demonstrable experience with different types of lighting fixtures (moving lights, LED fixtures, conventional lights).
- Solid knowledge of electrical systems, power distribution, and safe wiring practices.
- Ability to read and interpret lighting plots, schematics, and technical drawings.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot under pressure.
- Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
- Physical fitness and ability to lift heavy equipment and work in varying environments.
Preferred Qualifications
- Formal qualification or certification in stage lighting, electrical engineering, or a related technical field.
- Experience with CAD software for lighting design (e.g., Vectorworks, Lightwright).
- Familiarity with video integration and media servers (e.g., Resolume, Hippotizer).
- First Aid and working at heights certifications.
- Previous experience working in live event production or theatre.
