Job Description

Career.zycto is seeking a dedicated and technically proficient Lighting Technician to join our dynamic team, focusing on stage and event setup across Pollokshields, Glasgow, and surrounding areas. This is an incredible opportunity for someone passionate about bringing creative visions to life through light, playing a pivotal role in a wide array of live events, corporate functions, concerts, and theatrical productions. You will be instrumental in the successful execution of lighting designs, from initial setup and programming to operation and dismantling, ensuring every event shines.

As a Lighting Technician, you will work closely with event managers, production designers, and other technical crew members, translating concepts into tangible lighting atmospheres. Your expertise will not only ensure technical functionality but also contribute significantly to the overall aesthetic and emotional impact of each event. Key Responsibilities

  • Assemble, install, and position various lighting equipment, including moving heads, LED fixtures, conventional lights, control desks, and associated cabling.
  • Perform pre-show checks and maintenance on all lighting equipment to ensure optimal functionality and safety.
  • Operate lighting consoles and programming software during rehearsals and live events, executing pre-designed cues and making on-the-fly adjustments as needed.
  • Collaborate effectively with production managers, stage managers, and other technical crew to integrate lighting with sound, video, and set design.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot technical issues with lighting systems quickly and efficiently during events.
  • Adhere strictly to health and safety regulations, ensuring a safe working environment for yourself and the entire crew.
  • Assist with the loading and unloading of equipment, ensuring proper handling, transportation, and storage.
  • Maintain an organised inventory of lighting equipment and report any damages or missing items.
  • Provide creative input and technical solutions to enhance lighting designs when required.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience as a Lighting Technician in live events, theatre, or a related field.
  • Strong technical knowledge of lighting fixtures, control systems (DMX, Art-Net), and power distribution.
  • Proficiency in operating lighting consoles (e.g., GrandMA, Avolites, Chamsys).
  • Ability to read and interpret lighting plots and technical drawings.
  • Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills under pressure.
  • Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Physical stamina and ability to lift heavy equipment and work at heights safely.
  • Commitment to safety protocols and best practices in event production.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Relevant certifications (e.g., PLASA National Rigging Certificate, ETCP Certification).
  • Experience with CAD software (e.g., Vectorworks Spotlight, AutoCAD) for lighting design.
  • Full UK driving license with access to own transport.
  • Familiarity with video mapping and media server integration.
  • Qualifications in Electrics or AV Technology.
  • Experience with rigging principles and practices.
