As a Local Truck Driver, you will be responsible for the safe and efficient transportation of goods within a defined regional area, ensuring timely deliveries to various customers. This role involves operating a commercial motor vehicle, adhering strictly to all Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations, and maintaining a high level of professionalism at all times. Key Responsibilities

  • Operate commercial motor vehicles safely and efficiently, primarily within the Bessemer, Alabama metro area and surrounding regions.
  • Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections of vehicles and equipment, documenting any defects or issues.
  • Transport goods to various destinations, ensuring timely and accurate delivery according to schedules.
  • Load and unload freight as required, using appropriate equipment and safety procedures.
  • Maintain accurate electronic logs (ELD) of driving activities, hours of service (HOS), and other required paperwork.
  • Adhere to all federal, state, and local traffic laws and Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations.
  • Communicate effectively with dispatch, customers, and other team members.
  • Represent the company professionally and courteously during interactions with clients and the public.
  • Ensure proper securement of cargo to prevent damage or shifting during transit.
  • Report any accidents, incidents, or traffic violations immediately.

Required Skills

  • Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL-A)
  • Minimum of 2 years (24 months) verifiable commercial driving experience
  • Clean Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) with no major violations
  • Ability to pass a DOT physical and drug screen
  • Strong understanding of DOT regulations and HOS compliance
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Physical ability to perform tasks such as loading/unloading, climbing, bending, and lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • Proven track record of reliability and punctuality

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with various trailer types (e.g., dry van, flatbed, reefer)
  • Familiarity with local routes and logistics in the Bessemer/Birmingham metropolitan area
  • Proficiency with ELD systems and navigation software
  • HazMat endorsement (not required, but a plus)
