Job Description

Career.zycto is excited to announce an opportunity for an aspiring Locksmith to join a leading security services team in Airdrie, Alberta. As a Locksmith Trainee, you will embark on a comprehensive journey to master the intricate world of locks, keys, and advanced security systems. We understand that expertise is built through practical experience and dedicated mentorship, which is why we provide all the necessary training. You’ll learn everything from re-keying cylinders and cutting new keys to installing complex access control systems and troubleshooting security hardware. This role offers an immersive learning experience, working alongside seasoned professionals who are passionate about sharing their knowledge and craftsmanship.

Your day-to-day will involve a variety of tasks, both in the field and in a workshop setting. You’ll gain hands-on experience with commercial, residential, and automotive locking mechanisms, understanding their mechanics and how to repair, replace, or upgrade them. You’ll also learn about the latest in electronic security solutions, smart locks, and alarm integration. Safety protocols, customer service excellence, and adherence to industry standards will be fundamental components of your training.

Key Responsibilities

  • Actively participate in and complete all provided training modules and practical exercises.
  • Shadow and assist experienced locksmiths on service calls and in the workshop.
  • Learn to cut keys accurately using manual and automated key cutting machines.
  • Develop skills in re-keying and master keying various lock types.
  • Assist with the installation, repair, and maintenance of mechanical and electronic locking systems.
  • Understand and practice safe work procedures and the proper use of tools and equipment.
  • Provide clear and polite communication with clients under supervision.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work vehicle and workspace.
  • Complete all assigned tasks efficiently and effectively.
  • Document work performed and materials used accurately.

Required Skills

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid Class 5 driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and manual dexterity.
  • Eagerness to learn and a positive attitude.
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to follow instructions meticulously.
  • Basic understanding of tools and their uses.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to pass a criminal background check.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience in a trade or technical field (e.g., automotive, construction, electronics) is an asset but not required.
  • Customer service experience.
  • Basic computer literacy.
  • First Aid certification.
  • Familiarity with Airdrie and surrounding areas.
