Job Description

Career.zycto is actively seeking experienced and highly motivated Logging Workers for an immediate hire opportunity in Apex, Iqaluit. This is a critical role within the forestry and natural resources sector, contributing to sustainable resource management in Canada’s unique northern environment. As a Logging Worker, you will be an integral part of a dedicated team responsible for various aspects of timber harvesting, land clearing, and site preparation. The work demands exceptional physical stamina, meticulous attention to safety protocols, and the ability to operate heavy machinery effectively in challenging terrain and weather conditions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate and maintain heavy logging equipment such as chainsaws, feller bunchers, skidders, processors, and loaders.
  • Fell trees, limb, and buck them into specified lengths according to work orders and safety regulations.
  • Transport logs from felling sites to landing areas using skidders or other designated machinery.
  • Assist with loading logs onto trucks for transport.
  • Perform routine inspection and maintenance of equipment, including sharpening chains and minor repairs.
  • Adhere strictly to all safety procedures, including wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Participate in daily safety briefings and contribute to a safe working environment.
  • Clear brush, construct temporary access roads, and prepare sites for logging operations.
  • Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors regarding operational progress, challenges, and safety concerns.
  • Ensure environmental protection measures are followed during all logging activities.

Required Skills

  • Minimum of 2 years of proven experience as a Logging Worker or in a similar heavy equipment operation role.
  • Demonstrated ability to safely operate chainsaws, skidders, and other forestry equipment.
  • Strong understanding of logging safety protocols and procedures.
  • Excellent physical stamina and ability to perform demanding manual labor in various weather conditions.
  • Mechanical aptitude for basic equipment maintenance and troubleshooting.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team in remote and challenging environments.
  • Strong spatial awareness and decision-making skills in a dynamic work setting.
  • Valid Class 5 (or equivalent) driver's license.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Heavy Equipment Operator certification relevant to forestry operations.
  • First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Fall Protection and Chainsaw Safety certifications.
  • Experience working in Arctic or remote Canadian environments.
  • Knowledge of sustainable forestry practices.
