Key Responsibilities
- Assist residents with activities of daily living (ADLs), including bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, and feeding.
- Support residents with mobility, transfers, and ambulation, using appropriate assistive devices.
- Administer medication reminders as per care plan and scope of practice.
- Observe and report changes in residents' physical, emotional, or cognitive status to nursing staff promptly.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and comfortable environment for residents.
- Engage residents in social activities and provide emotional support.
- Document care provided accurately and in accordance with facility policies.
- Collaborate effectively with the interdisciplinary healthcare team.
- Adhere to all health and safety regulations and infection control protocols.
- Assist with meal preparation and feeding, ensuring residents receive adequate nutrition and hydration.
Required Skills
- Completion of a recognized Continuing Care Assistant (CCA) program or equivalent.
- Proven experience (minimum 1 year) working as a Long Term Care Aide or similar role.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.
- Strong observational and reporting skills.
- Physical ability to perform duties, including lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods.
- Demonstrated empathy, patience, and a genuine passion for elder care.
Preferred Qualifications
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) or CPR certification.
- Experience working with diverse resident populations, including those with dementia.
- Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems.
- Additional language proficiency is an asset.
