Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Full-Time Machinist to join our dynamic team at the Rwanda Brick & Tile Manufacturing Company in Rwamagana. In this critical role, you will be instrumental in the operation, maintenance, and repair of a wide range of factory equipment essential for our brick and tile production processes. This includes, but is not limited to, machinery such as presses, mixers, conveyors, kilns, and various other industrial tools.
The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of mechanical principles, be adept at interpreting technical drawings, and capable of operating various machine tools with precision. Your expertise will ensure the smooth and efficient running of our production lines, minimizing downtime and contributing directly to our output quality and quantity. You will be responsible for fabricating, modifying, and repairing components, troubleshooting mechanical issues, and implementing preventative maintenance schedules. Safety is paramount in our factory, and you will be expected to adhere strictly to all safety protocols and contribute to maintaining a secure working environment.

Key Responsibilities
- Operate and set up various machine tools including lathes, milling machines, grinders, and drill presses to fabricate, modify, or repair metal parts and products.
- Read, interpret, and work from blueprints, sketches, and engineering drawings to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished workpieces.
- Perform precision measurements using instruments such as micrometers, calipers, and gauges to ensure parts conform to specifications.
- Conduct routine inspection, preventative maintenance, and repair of factory machinery and equipment.
- Diagnose mechanical problems and determine the best course of action for repair or replacement.
- Fabricate replacement parts for worn or broken machine components using welding, cutting, and other metalworking techniques.
- Collaborate with production supervisors and engineers to optimize machine performance and improve manufacturing processes.
- Adhere strictly to all company safety regulations and procedures, maintaining a clean and organized work area.
- Maintain accurate records of machine maintenance, repairs, and part specifications.
Required Skills
- Minimum 3 years of proven experience as a Machinist in a manufacturing environment.
- Proficiency in operating conventional machine tools (lathes, mills, grinders).
- Strong ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings.
- Excellent precision measurement skills and familiarity with various measuring instruments.
- Solid understanding of mechanical principles, materials, and properties of metals.
- Demonstrated troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities for mechanical issues.
- Commitment to workplace safety and understanding of industrial safety protocols.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Vocational training, diploma, or certification in Machining, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field.
- Experience with industrial heavy machinery found in brick and tile manufacturing (e.g., hydraulic presses, conveyor systems, mixing equipment).
- Welding and fabrication experience (e.g., MIG, TIG, Stick welding).
- Basic knowledge of Computer-Aided Design (CAD) or Computer-Aided Manufacturing (CAM) software.
- Experience with preventative maintenance scheduling and execution.
