Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Maintenance Worker specializing in Facility Repair to join our esteemed team at Sirikwa Hotel Eldoret. As a vital member of our operations, you will be responsible for ensuring the optimal functioning, safety, and aesthetic presentation of all hotel premises, equipment, and systems. This role requires a proactive individual with a comprehensive understanding of various trades, including plumbing, electrical systems, carpentry, painting, and general building maintenance. You will perform routine inspections, preventative maintenance tasks, and swift repairs to minimize downtime and ensure guest satisfaction. Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct daily inspections of hotel premises, including guest rooms, common areas, kitchens, and back-of-house facilities, to identify maintenance needs.
  • Perform routine and preventative maintenance on plumbing systems (leaks, clogs, fixture repairs), electrical systems (lighting, outlets, minor wiring), HVAC units, and kitchen equipment.
  • Execute carpentry tasks such as repairing furniture, doors, windows, and fixtures, as well as minor installations and plaster repairs.
  • Address painting, plastering, and general masonry repairs to maintain the aesthetic appeal and structural integrity of the property.
  • Respond promptly to maintenance requests from guests and staff, troubleshooting issues and performing necessary repairs efficiently and courteously.
  • Maintain accurate records of all maintenance work performed, including time, materials used, and equipment serviced, utilizing our internal tracking systems.
  • Ensure compliance with all health, safety, and environmental regulations and hotel policies, conducting safety checks on equipment and facilities.
  • Assist with the setup and dismantling of equipment for events and conferences, ensuring proper functionality and safety.
  • Monitor inventory of tools and supplies, reporting needs to the supervisor and assisting with procurement when required to ensure continuity of operations.
  • Collaborate effectively with other departments (e.g., Housekeeping, Front Office) to ensure seamless operations and minimal disruption to guest services.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience of at least 2 years as a maintenance worker or similar role, preferably in a hotel or large facility setting.
  • Solid understanding of general maintenance processes and methods across multiple trades.
  • Proficiency in basic plumbing, electrical troubleshooting, carpentry, and painting techniques.
  • Ability to work with various hand tools and power tools safely and effectively.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to diagnose and fix mechanical, electrical, and plumbing issues independently.
  • Excellent physical condition and strength, with the ability to lift heavy objects, climb ladders, and work in various positions (e.g., kneeling, bending) for extended periods.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills to interact professionally with guests, staff, and vendors.
  • High school diploma or equivalent; vocational training or certification in a relevant trade is a strong advantage.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Technical certification or diploma in a relevant field (e.g., electrical installation, plumbing, HVAC systems).
  • Experience with hotel-specific equipment and systems (e.g., key card systems, commercial kitchen equipment).
  • Knowledge of local building codes and safety regulations specific to the hospitality industry.
  • Basic computer skills for record-keeping, maintenance software, and communication.
  • First aid and fire safety certification.
