As a Mechanical Engineer at Woodward, you will be instrumental in the design, development, analysis, and testing of advanced control system components and integrated systems for a variety of critical applications. Your work will directly influence the performance and reliability of aircraft engines, industrial gas and steam turbines, and electrical power generation systems. You’ll engage in a full product lifecycle, from initial concept validation through detailed design, prototyping, qualification, and production support. This involves applying principles of mechanics, thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, and material science to solve challenging engineering problems. Key Responsibilities

  • Design, analyze, and develop mechanical components and systems for high-performance control applications, ensuring adherence to specifications and industry standards.
  • Conduct detailed engineering analysis, including stress, thermal, vibration, and fluid dynamics, using FEA/CFD software and analytical methods.
  • Create and maintain detailed engineering drawings, specifications, and documentation using CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, Creo).
  • Develop and execute test plans for new designs, analyze test data, and provide recommendations for design improvements.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with electrical engineers, manufacturing teams, project managers, and quality assurance to ensure successful product development and launch.
  • Participate in design reviews, FMEAs, and root cause analysis to identify and resolve technical issues.
  • Support manufacturing and supply chain activities, addressing production challenges and identifying opportunities for cost reduction or process improvement.
  • Stay abreast of new technologies, materials, and manufacturing processes, integrating them into design practices where appropriate.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the engineering department.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum of 4 years of professional experience in mechanical design and analysis.
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, Creo, CATIA).
  • Demonstrated experience with FEA software (e.g., Ansys, Abaqus) for stress, thermal, and vibration analysis.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical engineering principles including statics, dynamics, mechanics of materials, thermodynamics, and fluid mechanics.
  • Experience with geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and critical thinking skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present technical information clearly.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • Experience in aerospace, industrial turbine, or power generation industries.
  • Familiarity with CFD analysis and tools.
  • Experience with product lifecycle management (PLM) systems.
  • Knowledge of various manufacturing processes (e.g., machining, casting, additive manufacturing).
  • Previous experience working on projects with international teams or for global markets.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or actively pursuing licensure.
