Job Description

Are you a highly skilled and safety-conscious Mechanical Fitter seeking a challenging and rewarding career opportunity? Caledonia Mining Corporation plc, a well-established and respected international gold producer, is actively seeking an experienced Mechanical Fitter to join our dedicated team at our operations in the Filabusi district of Matabeleland South Province, Zimbabwe. This pivotal role involves the comprehensive maintenance, inspection, and repair of a wide array of heavy mechanical plant, equipment, and machinery critical to our underground and surface gold mining operations. The successful candidate will play a crucial part in ensuring the reliability, efficiency, and safety of our entire mechanical infrastructure, ranging from crushers, mills, conveyors, pumps, and compressors to trackless mobile machinery and general workshop equipment. You will be responsible for executing preventative maintenance schedules, conducting thorough fault diagnostics, performing intricate repairs, and adhering strictly to all safety protocols and quality standards. Key Responsibilities

  • Perform preventative and corrective maintenance on all mechanical plant and equipment.
  • Diagnose faults, troubleshoot, and repair various mechanical systems and components.
  • Inspect machinery and components for defects, wear, and tear, ensuring compliance with safety standards.
  • Conduct overhauls, rebuilds, and installations of mining equipment such as crushers, mills, conveyors, pumps, and compressors.
  • Adhere strictly to all company safety procedures, policies, and health regulations.
  • Interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and schematics to guide repair and maintenance tasks.
  • Utilize precision measuring instruments to ensure components are within specified tolerances.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, parts used, and equipment status.
  • Collaborate with other technical teams and operators to optimize equipment performance and minimize downtime.
  • Participate in risk assessments and implement corrective actions to prevent accidents.

Required Skills

  • National Certificate in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent recognized qualification.
  • Minimum of 4 years (48 months) post-qualification experience as a Mechanical Fitter, preferably in a mining or heavy industrial environment.
  • Proven experience with maintenance and repair of heavy plant, crushers, mills, conveyors, and pumping systems.
  • Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical drawings and manuals.
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety procedures and practices.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a demanding environment.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Class 1 Mechanical Fitter Journeyman Card.
  • Experience with trackless mobile machinery (TMM) maintenance.
  • Knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
  • Basic welding and fabrication skills.
  • Valid first aid certificate.
