Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated, skilled, and dedicated Medical Lab Technologist to join our vital diagnostics team at Bindura Provincial Hospital. This full-time position offers a unique opportunity to contribute significantly to patient care by providing accurate and timely laboratory results, which are crucial for disease diagnosis, treatment, and prevention within our community. Key Responsibilities

  • Perform a variety of laboratory tests in areas such as hematology, chemistry, microbiology, serology, and urinalysis, following established procedures and protocols.
  • Operate, calibrate, and maintain laboratory equipment, ensuring proper functioning and adherence to quality control measures.
  • Analyze and interpret test results, accurately reporting findings to medical staff in a timely manner.
  • Prepare specimens for testing, ensuring proper labeling, storage, and handling to maintain specimen integrity.
  • Participate in quality assurance and quality control programs to ensure the accuracy and reliability of all laboratory results.
  • Adhere strictly to all hospital policies, safety regulations, and ethical guidelines, including patient confidentiality.
  • Maintain accurate records of tests performed, results, and quality control data.
  • Troubleshoot technical problems with equipment and assays, implementing corrective actions as necessary.

Required Skills

  • Diploma or Degree in Medical Laboratory Technology or equivalent.
  • Current valid registration with the Medical Laboratory and Clinical Scientists Council of Zimbabwe.
  • Minimum of 3 years of post-qualification experience in a clinical laboratory setting.
  • Proficiency in performing a wide range of laboratory tests and operating diagnostic equipment.
  • Strong understanding of laboratory quality control and assurance principles.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in a public hospital or high-volume laboratory environment.
  • Familiarity with Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS).
  • Continuous professional development (CPD) activities in relevant areas.
  • Ability to train and mentor junior staff.
