In this role, you will be instrumental in offering comprehensive counseling services, including individual, group, and family therapy, to a diverse population facing various challenges. The Ibo Island community, while beautiful, has unique needs that require a sensitive, culturally competent, and adaptable approach to mental health care. You will engage with clients of all ages, addressing issues such as trauma, anxiety, depression, grief, and other psychological distress, providing a safe and confidential space for healing and growth. Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive mental health assessments and develop individualized treatment plans.
- Provide individual, group, and family counseling sessions using evidence-based therapeutic modalities.
- Offer crisis intervention and de-escalation support as needed.
- Maintain accurate and confidential client records in compliance with ethical and legal standards.
- Collaborate with other healthcare professionals, community leaders, and social services to ensure holistic client care.
- Facilitate psychoeducational workshops and community outreach programs to promote mental health awareness and reduce stigma.
- Monitor client progress and adjust treatment plans accordingly.
- Participate in regular supervision and professional development activities.
- Adhere to all professional and ethical guidelines for mental health practice.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of culturally appropriate mental health initiatives.
Required Skills
- Master's degree in Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, or a related field.
- Minimum of 4 years of post-qualification experience in mental health counseling.
- Proven ability to conduct assessments and develop effective treatment plans.
- Strong therapeutic skills in individual and group settings.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Cultural sensitivity and ability to work with diverse populations.
- Proficiency in English (written and spoken).
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Preferred Qualifications
- Clinical license or certification in Mental Health Counseling (or equivalent).
- Experience working in community-based mental health programs, particularly in rural or developing regions.
- Familiarity with local Mozambican cultures and dialects (e.g., Kimwani, Makhuwa).
- Experience with trauma-informed care and crisis intervention.
- Proficiency in Portuguese.
