Job Description
Mabati Rolling Mills (MRM) is seeking a highly skilled and safety-conscious Metal Stamping Operator to join our dynamic production team in Thika. In this critical role, you will be responsible for operating and maintaining advanced metal stamping machinery to produce high-quality components and products essential to our diverse range of building materials. As a Metal Stamping Operator, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the efficient and precise production of various metal parts, working with materials such as galvanized steel, aluminum, and pre-painted coils. Your daily tasks will involve setting up machinery, loading materials, monitoring the stamping process, conducting quality checks, and performing routine maintenance to ensure optimal machine performance and product integrity. You will be expected to adhere strictly to all safety protocols and quality standards, contributing to a secure and productive work environment. Key Responsibilities
- Operate and monitor metal stamping machines (e.g., punch presses, brake presses, roll formers) to produce components according to specifications.
- Perform routine machine setups, including die changes, adjustments, and calibration.
- Load and unload materials onto machines, ensuring proper alignment and feeding.
- Conduct in-process quality checks using precision measuring instruments (calipers, micrometers, gauges) to ensure adherence to blueprints and quality standards.
- Identify and troubleshoot minor machine malfunctions or production issues, escalating complex problems to maintenance or supervisors.
- Adhere strictly to all safety procedures, including Lockout/Tagout protocols, and maintain a clean and organized work area.
- Complete production logs, quality reports, and other necessary documentation accurately.
- Perform routine maintenance tasks on machinery, such as lubrication and cleaning.
- Collaborate effectively with team members and supervisors to meet production targets and improve operational efficiency.
- Continuously look for opportunities to optimize processes and reduce waste.
Required Skills
- Minimum 2 years of proven experience as a Metal Stamping Operator or in a similar machine operation role within a manufacturing environment.
- Strong understanding of metal forming principles and processes.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical drawings, blueprints, and job orders.
- Ability to use precision measuring instruments accurately (calipers, micrometers, gauges).
- Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality work.
- Solid understanding of industrial safety practices and procedures.
- Mechanical aptitude and basic troubleshooting skills.
- Physical ability to stand for extended periods, lift heavy materials, and perform repetitive tasks.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certificate or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Production Technology, or a related technical field.
- Experience with CNC metal stamping machinery.
- Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma principles.
- Ability to operate forklifts or other material handling equipment (certification preferred).
