Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive microbiological analyses, including isolation, identification, enumeration, and characterization of microorganisms from various samples.
  • Perform aseptic techniques rigorously to maintain sterile laboratory conditions and prevent contamination during experimentation and culturing.
  • Develop, optimize, and validate new microbiological methods and assays in accordance with industry best practices and regulatory guidelines.
  • Operate, calibrate, and maintain sophisticated laboratory equipment such as PCR machines, spectrophotometers, incubators, and microscopes.
  • Analyze and interpret complex experimental data, prepare detailed scientific reports, and present findings to internal teams and stakeholders.
  • Ensure strict compliance with Good Laboratory Practice (GLP), Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP), ISO standards, and other relevant regulatory frameworks.
  • Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, including R&D, Quality Control, and Production, to support project goals and troubleshoot issues.
  • Investigate and resolve technical challenges encountered during microbiological testing, proposing and implementing corrective actions.
  • Maintain accurate, meticulous, and comprehensive laboratory records, documentation, and databases.
  • Actively contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the laboratory, enhancing efficiency, safety, and quality processes.

Required Skills

  • Strong theoretical and practical knowledge of general microbiology, bacteriology, mycology, and virology.
  • Proficiency in a wide array of microbiological techniques, including culturing, staining, microscopy, PCR, ELISA, and antimicrobial susceptibility testing.
  • Demonstrated expertise in aseptic techniques and adherence to biosafety protocols (e.g., BSL-1/2).
  • Excellent data analysis, interpretation, and statistical skills with proficiency in relevant software.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in both English and German.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, precision, and organizational abilities in laboratory work.
  • Proven problem-solving capabilities and a proactive approach to scientific challenges.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree or Ph.D. in Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, or a closely related scientific field.
  • Previous experience (2+ years) working in a regulated environment within the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, food safety, or healthcare industries.
  • In-depth knowledge of specific regulatory frameworks such as cGMP, GLP, ISO 17025, or HACCP principles.
  • Experience with advanced laboratory information management systems (LIMS) or other data management software.
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently with minimal supervision and collaboratively within a dynamic team setting.
