Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the research, conceptualization, design, and installation of compelling permanent and temporary exhibitions.
  • Manage, document, and conserve museum collections, ensuring adherence to professional museum standards.
  • Develop and implement collection management policies, including acquisition, deaccession, inventory, and loan procedures.
  • Conduct primary and secondary research on collection items and related historical contexts to inform exhibitions and publications.
  • Contribute to the development of educational programs, interpretive materials, and public lectures related to museum collections and exhibitions.
  • Collaborate with marketing and communications teams to promote exhibitions and engage a broad audience.
  • Oversee the physical arrangement, interpretation, and environmental controls for gallery spaces.
  • Supervise and mentor junior staff, interns, and volunteers involved in curatorial projects.
  • Seek and apply for grants and funding opportunities to support curatorial projects and collection growth.
  • Represent the museum at professional conferences, community events, and public forums.

Required Skills

  • Master's degree in Museum Studies, Art History, History, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in curatorial roles within a museum or gallery setting.
  • Demonstrated expertise in exhibition development, project management, and collection care.
  • Strong research, writing, and public speaking skills.
  • Proficiency with museum collection management software (e.g., PastPerfect, Re:discovery, The Museum System).
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and lead projects effectively.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Understanding of current museum best practices and ethical guidelines.

Preferred Qualifications

  • PhD in a relevant discipline.
  • Experience with grant writing and fundraising.
  • Bilingualism (English and French).
  • Proven track record of engaging diverse audiences through innovative programming.
  • Familiarity with digital humanities tools and techniques for exhibition enhancement.
