As an Entry-Level Network Administrator, you will play a crucial supporting role in the maintenance, monitoring, and daily operations of Digicel’s vast and complex network systems. You will be instrumental in ensuring the stability, security, and optimal performance of our company’s critical IT infrastructure. This position is designed for individuals who are quick learners, possess strong problem-solving skills, and are committed to continuous professional development. You will be exposed to a wide range of networking technologies, including routers, switches, firewalls, and wireless access points, working within a high-availability environment. This role offers a unique chance to develop practical skills in network configuration, troubleshooting, and system support under the guidance of senior network engineers. Your contributions will directly impact our ability to deliver seamless connectivity and services to millions of customers across Jamaica.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the monitoring of network performance and health, identifying and escalating anomalies to senior administrators.
- Perform basic network troubleshooting to resolve connectivity issues for end-users and internal systems.
- Support the configuration and maintenance of network devices such as routers, switches, and firewalls under supervision.
- Document network configurations, changes, and standard operating procedures to maintain accurate records.
- Participate in the implementation of network upgrades and patches as part of a team.
- Provide first-level support for network-related incidents, responding to help desk tickets promptly.
- Learn and adhere to IT security policies and best practices to safeguard company data and infrastructure.
- Collaborate with other IT teams (e.g., systems, helpdesk) to ensure integrated and efficient IT operations.
Required Skills
- Basic understanding of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, and routing protocols.
- Familiarity with network hardware components (routers, switches, firewalls).
- Proficiency with Windows and/or Linux operating systems.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- A keen desire to learn and adapt to new technologies quickly.
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
- Relevant certifications such as CompTIA Network+, CCNA (entry-level knowledge), or equivalent.
- Experience with network monitoring tools (e.g., Nagios, SolarWinds) is a plus.
- Basic knowledge of scripting languages (e.g., Python, PowerShell) for automation.
- Understanding of ITIL principles for service management.
